In Loving Memory

In loving memory
Thomas Irving Carr
December 28th 1947 - February 3rd 2025

Thomas Irving Carr, 77, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Essex, VT, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2025, with his loving family by his side, following several months battling heart failure. He was born on December 28, 1947, in Bellows Falls, Vermont and was the youngest of three children.

Tom grew up in rural Jericho, Vermont. He attended Jericho High School before graduating from Rice Memorial High School in 1965. After attending a year at UVM, he started his career in construction with Pizzagalli Construction and Engineers Inc. He was then asked to become the first employee for Engelberth Construction. Tom took pride in working hard and grew with the success of the business. Over the years, he held various roles, including carpenter, project manager, estimator, and eventually vice president of the company. He left the company in 1996 to pursue his dream of driving an eighteen-wheeler. He owned and operated his own Peterbilt rig for long-haul trucking with Terry Hill Trucking for several years. He returned to the construction field and worked with KR Adams and Stewart Construction until his retirement.

Tom enjoyed spending time at the camp he built on Lake Eden. He spent many summer weekends puttering around on his trusty Kubota tractor, and playing cards like Cribbage and Horse & Pepper. In the autumn, he made many memories as an avid deer hunter at his uncles' deer camp on Eden Mountain. He also enjoyed taking long rides around northern Vermont on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife Robin. When they moved to Florida, he traded in his motorcycle for a convertible, which allowed them to continue exploring new places.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Robin Cross Carr; his sons Brian (Amanda) Carr and Tyler (Amanda) Carr and their mother Judy Carr; stepsons David Schifilliti, Mike (Sarah) Schifilliti and family; and his beloved grandchildren, Jericho, Rowan, Alex, Helen, Sophia and Dominic. He was incredibly proud of each of them. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jill (Jim) Lemay and his nieces and nephews: John (Wanda) Carr, Daniel (Natalie) Carr, and Susan Carr; Thomas (Miriam) Berry and Sarah (Victor) Watson; as well as several Carr and Marckres cousins, their children and grandchildren.

Tom was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Irving Carr; his mother, Rogene Marckres Carr; his brother, David Carr (survived by his wife, Janice); his sister, Judy Berry (survived by her husband, Tom); and his niece Cathy Carr.

Tom's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their Sawgrass neighbors and friends, who have been a constant source of comfort and support throughout the past year. Tom and his wife Robin were deeply touched by the kindness and generosity shown to them during this difficult time, and they will always be grateful for the love and care they received from their community.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date in Vermont, where family will gather to share stories and memories of his remarkable life.
